![]() We are treated to some opening shots of a serene town. Elsa has recently gone through a mental breakdown and is recovering at their trailer park home. Former ballerina Elsa (Miles), and her engineer husband Carl. The episode stars Ralph Meeker and a regular Hitchcock player in Vera Miles. The story was written by Samuel Bias with a teleplay by Francis Cockrell. “Revenge” is the first episode of the first season and the first episode of the series that Alfred Hitchcock directed. To begin, we will look at the premiere episode of ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS, titled “Revenge.” I have to mention that there will be spoilers of these episodes. Here, I will take the time to provide some level of analysis of each episode and see if Alfred Hitchcock’s film direction and television direction overlap and if he had a mastery of suspense on the small screen as comparable as he did on the silver screen. Over the ten year period that ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS and its renamed THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR was on the air, Hitchcock himself would sit in the director chair for 18 episodes. Harrison would take on the role of producer and oversee the acquisition of the writers and directors that would work on the weekly anthology series to be titled, ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS. To aid him in this new endeavor, Hitchcock would enlist Joan Harrison who wrote for Hitchcock during the late 1930s and into the 1940s on films such as REBECCA, FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT, SUSPICION and SABOTEUR. With the rise of television in delivering stories to audiences, it would only make sense that Hitchcock would make the leap to television. He had proven to be an extremely popular director who had achieved a level of stardom nearly on the level as the actors he directed in his films. One area I wanted to dive into more is Hitchcock’s television filmography.īy the 1950s, Hitchcock had now directed films in four different decades. ![]() I have always found Hitchcock’s work to be extremely entertaining and due to the size of his filmography, we have a significant amount of material to review and analyze. These include PSYCHO, MARNIE, DIAL M FOR MURDER, REAR WINDOW, THE LADY VANISHES, SUSPICION, THE BIRDS, FRENZY, TOPAZ AND ROPE. I’ve written about a few of the Master of Suspense’s works. Not sure if he was in an hour one.The films of Alfred Hitchcock are certainly frequent subject here on DeaconsDen. Joseph Cotten was in several of the half hr ones. I thought that was one of the best of the hour episodes. The Unlocked Window was the episode that channeled Spiral Staircase. Yes, Bel Geddes was in that Lambs episode. Was very similar to The Spiral Staircase. I remember the Robert Morley episode a bit. I watched them on YT a few years ago again and saw all of them except for I think USA ran the hour longĮpisodes many years ago. IIRC, Barbara Bel Geddes played the wife in Lamb to the Slaughter. Pat Hitchcock turns up a lot too.Not every one was great, but a lot of them still stand the test of time. Bette Davis was in one Rains many others. LOL! Finally got to see the last half hr show w/Diana Dors that was never shown at the time due to the sponsors objections.Lots of stars at the time appeared on the show. That episode that was on just a few wks ago where at Robert Morley's exclusive club they served "human" food. It's amazing what they got away with back then. I remember the hour show as I was too young when the half hr show was on. I think I've probably seen all of them, thanks to MeTV. Hibi wrote: ↑ December 7th, 2023, 4:53 pm I record some of the good ones to watch later in the week from the Sunday show. They still run the hour show on Sundays at 1am when the half hr runs during the week. they run the hour show, then back to the half hr. Yes, it alternates with the hour long show in that time slot. MeTV shows two episodes of it back-to-back every weeknight starting at midnight.įWIW here, about twenty years ago I was competely hooked on watching reruns of this program each night that (I believe at the time) TVLand showed, and one of my favorites starred Keenan Wynn as a somewhat boorish inverterate losing gambler who is traveling to Europe with his long-suffering wife on an ocean liner, titled "Dip in the Pool". ![]() I've been meaning to watch some of this! May I ask where/what format you're watching this on? Unsure if it's available anywhere online, or if I'll have to buy the series. ![]() NickandNora34 wrote: ↑ December 6th, 2023, 11:06 pm ![]()
